Phonics and Early Reading
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go.”— Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”
Reading is at the heart of Cayton’s beliefs and values as an essential life skill and embedded throughout the curriculum.
We are committed to instilling a love and enjoyment of reading in ALL children.
We recognise that reading skills develop over time and we acknowledge that these begin with a good phonic knowledge. It is essential that our approach to teaching phonics and reading is accessible to all learners, regardless of their background.
We are aim to ensuring that EVERY CHILD will learn to read to a high standard of fluency and understanding, regardless of their background, needs or abilities.

For information about the reading scheme and phonics teaching and provision here at Cayton Primary School, please see the policy below.
